All About Zombies

Zombies, from which the term Zompire Dracularius originated, are creatures that have shown up in pop culture and folklore as mindless humans or living corpses.  They have become a popular figure in horror fiction, including movies, books, games, haunted attractions, and internet websites.  The zombie figure was brought to fame by George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" film in 1968.

Modern zombies are often depicted as unfeeling monsters that hunger for human flesh.  They are often far more invincible than living humans, normally requiring a shot to the head or being set on fire to die.  Their species spreads by biting living humans to transform the living into the living-dead.  Many zombie literature uses the idea of a "zombie apocalypse", in which the entire civilization is plagued by a rapidly increasing population of zombies.  Zombies exhibit very little intellect, and are generally incapable of communicating verbally, lack personality, and lose sense of rationality.

There are many video games that utilize zombies, including Resident Evil, House of the Dead, Dead Rising, Left 4 Dead, and Urban Dead.
